THE PROBLEM
Tech professionals often lack clear, personalised salary benchmarks, so they don't know if they're underpaid or how adding AI/ML skills could raise their pay. Generic salary sites can't compare someone's specific role, experience and skills against FAANG-level data, leaving candidates uncertain. Meanwhile, Interview Kickstart had no easy on-site solution (relying solely on webinars), meaning it was missing a scalable, low-friction funnel to engage these users.
THE SOLUTION
We designed an AI-driven Salary Analyzer that lets users upload their CV and instantly see a customised "market value" report. The clean responsive UI highlights key metrics (for example, an average ₹23 LPA baseline and ~60% average uplift in pay for AI-skilled engineers) and identifies skill gaps that drive earnings. By using simple charts and plain language, it builds trust in the AI output. As a free, streamlined tool on desktop and mobile, it gives immediate value (even touting up to 100% salary hikes with AI) while effectively converting visitors into high-intent leads.
The whole report exists to answer one question: what do AI skills do to my pay?

Figures come from anonymized compensation data across top tech firms and global market research.
Interview Kickstart's AI Salary Analyzer is a free, AI-driven tool that helps tech professionals instantly benchmark their market compensation and discover how AI/ML skills could boost their pay. By analysing a user's resume and inputs (role, experience, location), it provides an immediate "Market Value" overview – showing current salary range, skill gaps, and personalized strategies to reach elite compensation levels. The dual goals were clear:
USER GOAL
Give engineers clarity on their true market worth and the specific AI skills that unlock higher pay (e.g. up to a 45–100% salary hike).
BUSINESS GOAL
Create an engaging, low-friction funnel to attract and convert site visitors. The tool leverages anonymized compensation data from top tech firms and global market research to make these insights highly relevant.
USER PROBLEM
Many software professionals felt in the dark about how their salary compares to peers and how emerging AI skills affect pay. Existing salary resources were generic and not tailored to specific roles or skillsets, so candidates couldn't be sure if they were undervalued or what to learn next.
BUSINESS PROBLEM
Interview Kickstart wanted a new channel to engage these professionals and demonstrate expertise – not just rely on paid webinars. Without a self-service tool, IK was missing a low-cost way to capture high-intent leads on the website. In short, users needed transparent, personalised compensation guidance, and the business needed a scalable lead-generation funnel that delivers real value.
Interviews and salary-survey data distilled into three rules for the UI.
01
Show where the number comes from, in plain language.
02
Role, experience and location shape every figure shown.
03
Every gap comes with the skill that closes it.
01
I led the UI/UX design from concept to handoff, defining the user flows and wireframes for the resume upload, analysis, and results pages. I ensured each screen made complex compensation data intuitive and actionable.
02
I conducted user research to understand salary negotiation pains and studied competing tools. Based on insights, I crafted personas and journey maps, identifying key decisions (e.g. inputting job details, reviewing pay band). These guided our information architecture.
03
Using Figma (with Illustrator and Photoshop for custom graphics), I developed hi-fi designs for desktop and mobile. The homepage features a bold headline ("Is Your Pay Keeping Up With the Market? Find Out Instantly.") and a simple one-click resume upload. I used clean typography, IK's brand palette, and visual cues to highlight the salary range and uplift potential. I also used GPT to draft and refine persuasive microcopy and call-to-actions.
04
I worked closely with product managers and data scientists to translate complex salary models into UI elements. Together we determined how to display output – such as showing current market valuation, required skills for next pay band, and estimated hike percentages. I aligned with engineers to ensure the design was feasible and consistent across devices.
05
I built clickable prototypes in Figma and ran usability tests focused on understanding the salary data, gathering feedback on clarity and trust. Based on test results, I tweaked layouts. Post-launch, I reviewed analytics and iterated on UI copy and progress indicators to improve completion rates.
RESEARCH & IDEATION
We began by interviewing tech candidates and analysing salary-survey data. I identified that many users fixate on "am I getting paid fairly?" and "how much could I earn with AI skills?". We distilled this into design pillars: transparency, personalisation, and actionable guidance. We gathered global compensation benchmarks and user expectations to ensure our model was realistic.
WIREFRAMING & FLOW MAPPING
I sketched the core flow: landing page → resume upload/inputs → instant analysis → detailed results. Early wireframes focused on simplicity: a one-click upload portal leading directly to insights. After stakeholder review, we added a brief input form (experience, role, location) to refine the output. Each step was iterated via paper sketches and low-fi mockups to streamline the process.

HIGH-FIDELITY UI DESIGN
Once the flow was validated, I designed polished screens. The homepage UI uses attention-grabbing calls-to-action (e.g. "Unlock Your Salary Potential") and minimal text for clarity. The upload step highlights that no credit card is required, reinforcing trust. The result page breaks information into digestible cards and charts: one section shows "Your Current Market Valuation" versus "Peers' Range", another shows "Salary Uplift with AI Skills". I used bar charts and progress bars to visualise gaps.
PROTOTYPING & TESTING
I created interactive prototypes for both desktop and mobile. Usability tests helped refine tricky elements, and we tested device breakpoints to ensure the layout scaled well. Each prototype cycle ended with tweaks to labels, spacing, and navigation before finalizing the designs.
Two fixes came straight out of watching people use it.
USERS ASKED
"What does Market Value Score actually mean?"
FIX
Added a simple explanation tooltip beside the score.
ON MOBILE
The static chart was hard to read and compare.
FIX
Switched from a static chart to interactive sliders.
The final landing page invites users to upload their resume with clear benefit statements: "Discover your true market value" and "Unlock 45–100% salary hike." I refined multiple mockups (wireframe to hi-fi) to maximise clarity and conversion. The design aligns with IK's brand and guides candidates to quickly engage with the tool.
